Unwind and Rewind

So back in September, we took a vacation. A real vacation: one that involved leaving for a full week, not checking email (or at least, not any more often than absolutely necessary), steadfastly resisting the temptation to do work. We’d taken days, even weekends off before, but we hadn’t had a real vacation since our wedding in the summer of 2008. Burned out and exhausted – our business hasn’t had a slow period in almost two years now – we both desperately needed the break.

We’re back online here at R&K after a hiatus for the better part of this year.  Apologies for that but it was necessary because of some security issues and we honestly had no time to update.

Ryan Lee made his appearance this morning at 9:18am.  He was 8lbs, 20 3/4 inches long with a head full of dark hair.  His fingers are long and his toes are markedly not webbed.  He is a repeat performance of Natalie and we are happy to have him.

Earlier this fall, we moved the office into commercial space downtown.  The home office was becoming way too small and there wasn’t enough space to think, let alone keep up with the volume of work Rob’s had come in.  The change was dramatic and sudden.  Work stayed at work.  Home stayed mostly at home and we’ve been able to relax after 4:30pm instead of talking constantly of what’s upcoming the next day and how overwhelming it’s all been.

I’m looking forward to writing again with some regularity.  It’s been too long and life is far too interesting to keep it quiet.

Fallout Boy Says

Okay, so before anyone accuses me of offering up an insufficient sympathy dosage to the countless numbers who are facing suffering beyond comprehension in Japan today, this has nothing to do with them. I’m as shocked, riveted and sympathetic to their plight as you are. This is about the people living on this side of the Pacific who are making a run on local health food stores for medication to save them from the cloud of zombificating radioactive fallout about to descend upon California at any moment.

Japan is 6000 miles away, people. That’s about a quarter way around the Earth. So just chill out. Any radiation that shows up on the West Coast is going to be very minimal, perhaps not even detectable. Sheesh.

For those reading this who aren’t familiar with Vault Boy, he’s sort of the mascot icon of the Fallout video game series. Think of VB as the famous “duck and cover” turtle, amped up to insanely ridiculous degree.
