I spent the entire day baking at my mom’s yesterday. Today? More baking at home! My mom asked me to bake rolls for Thanksgiving and with 30 people coming, I had a lot of dough to knead. I’m tired and it’s only 2:30. When does the restful part come?

Sweet Vacation
This year, my school district put us on a modified traditional calendar so I have the entire week off this week. It’s so wonderful to have this entire week to prepare for the holidays. We spent today doing more cleaning. My wedding dress is boxed and put away, finally. Our guest room is no longer the wedding room. It has a cleaned out closet, books sorted through, dusted and swept. The bedding is being washed (I sleep in there sometimes because I tend to be an insomniac) and it feels like I’d like to have company again! The living room floor was mopped for the first time in a long while and we scoured the bathroom. Rob sorted the office out, the floor was mopped and overall, the house is coming into shape. I guess with the idea of vacation means I have time to get caught up on all the things I haven’t had the time or energy to do.
Tomorrow is holiday baking with my mom. We bake cookies and breads for gifts and for the various holiday entertaining we do through the month. They’ve returned from their cruise we enjoyed dinner out with them last night. The holidays last year were so chaotic with Rob moving that we didn’t really enjoy the whole build up. This year, I’m savoring each plan we make, each party we will attend, each day I have with my family, my husband.
Contented
I woke up early this morning, about 6:30. Tucker was hungry and Samson needed to go out. I padded into the kitchen and started with the dishes. Coffee brewed. Breakfast baking. Floor swept. Rolls for Thanksgiving started. Grocery store attended to. Rob woke up and after a shower, we just puttered around.
I love this life.
Lucky Girl, Part 287
I’m a lucky girl. Ad finitium.

Let me explain. I get migraines. Really bad, debilitating, can’t get out of bed sometimes migraines. I take medication to prevent them but once in a while, one slips in there. Usually around that time of the month. On Saturday, I had a pretty bad one and slept the better part of the day after taking the abortive drug I have to stop the pain. Weekend wasted.Â
Yesterday morning, I woke up at 5am with that shooting eye pain. I got up, wrote sub plans and emailed them off and went back to bed. I was out of my magic pills to make it stop. Rob had called the pharmacy on Tuesday to order all my scrips again but they wouldn’t be ready until Wednesday at noon. I slept with a cold washcloth on my eyes until about 10:30. In the midst of his busiest November ever, swamped with clients and projects, my husband still found the time to check on me, refresh my cold compress and go to the pharmacy to get the good stuff.Â
I went back to bed after taking 3 Tylenol and 3 Advil. He returned from the pharmacy to find me in bed. He woke me to take magic pills and I promptly fell back to sleep until he woke me at 4:45. Drugs are good. I woke up feeling famished, thirsty (he says I’m like a bear out of hibernation when I emerge from the other side of a migraine) and ready to go supervise the girls’ Powder Puff football game last night at work. My doting husband came along for the ride.

I am a lucky girl, indeed.
