Waiting

So break my step and relent
You forgave and I won’t forget
Know what we’ve seen and him with less
Now in some way shake the excess
But I will wait, I will wait for you.

Sometimes.. sometimes there is a song that reaches into exactly how I’ve been feeling and shakes me.  I hit repeat and let it wash over my thoughts.

But I’ll kneel down, wait for now
I’ll kneel down, know my ground
Raise my hands, paint my spirit gold
And bow my head, keep my heart slow

The last 5 weeks have been a lesson in waiting and being bold.  It’s terrifying and comforting at the same time.  I have no idea how to make sense of it with words.  But there it is.  I’ve been frustrated, relieved, incredulous, annoyed and just plain confused.  But I will keep waiting for the answers to come because I know they will.  I don’t pretend to know the way forward; in fact, all I’ve said for the last month is that I don’t know what comes next.  But there is no rushing past God, no manufactured crisis or manipulation that can out-maneuver what He has planned.

So for now, we wait.

So I’ll be bold, as well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart.
So take my flesh and fix my eyes
That tethered mind free from the lies.

Whoops

So the month of July just sort of whipped right past us here at R&K.  Not quite sure how that happened but it is what it is.

We celebrated our 4th anniversary at the beginning of the month without much fanfare.  We drove over to Monterey and had dinner at our favorite restaurant on the wharf.  Not totally thrilling but it was a needed break.

We just returned from a 10 day break at the coast with my family.  We did this same trip 2 years ago and decided to give it another go.  We left a few days earlier than everyone else and stayed in Monterey at The Seven Gables Inn for 2 nights.  Truly gorgeous and the weather was awesome.  And then it was off to Ventura for a week.

3 beach houses.. 23 people.. sun, good food, laughter, lots of games.  I’ll write more in depth later when I’m a bit more focused.

We arrived home on Friday afternoon.  The pets were glad to see us and we took our time settling back in.  Today we celebrated birthdays and our air conditioner decided to give up the ghost.  98F outside, 86F inside, 25% humidity.  Gah!  It’s fixed and sorted now but we were miserable for several hours.

Making Good Art

Some highlights I want to share because if I’m not sharing something inspiring tonight, I will say some things I shouldn’t.

So.. Neil.  Thank you for your words.  Thank you for inspiring my husband with your words.  Thank you for reminding me that I’m just like every one else in the creative field (and thank God for that).

“If you have an idea of what you want to make, what you were put here to do, then just go and do that. And that’s much harder than it sounds and, sometimes in the end, so much easier than you might imagine.”

“I hope you’ll make mistakes. If you’re making mistakes, it means you’re out there doing something. And the mistakes in themselves can be useful.”

“That was the hardest lesson for me, I think: to let go and enjoy the ride, because the ride takes you to some remarkable and unexpected places.”

Yes, yes, and again YES.  Watch the video.  Find your own pearls of wisdom.

“Make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here. Make good art.”

I’m working on it, Mr. Gaiman.  I’m working on it.
