It’s funny how sometimes, you go through a period in your life where things seem to start clicking together. Disparate things, odds and ends, the shredded remains of past days that somehow appear to be forming a picture. It’s kinda been that way lately.

You know, looking back from nearly the age of flying DeLoreans, rejuvenation clinics, hoverboards and abolished lawyers, the distant past of the mid-1980s in some ways seems a touch more real than the society of confused ambiguities that we all inhabit in 2012. Some of that is age, I’m sure. At 40, you appreciate the spins and twists and muddled middles of life considerably more than you do at 15, or even 30. You learn to fight them less. You start learning to let go. At some point you realize that what you cling to the most are often little more than convenient fictions.

So not long ago, we’re sitting in the office and I’m banging out a deadline – a case study about a tech outsourcer, I think – and Kristi’s cranking music off Pandora. A song comes on that catches my ear, and I ask her what it is. Eddie Vedder, “Society”. From the soundtrack to the 2007 movie “Into The Wild”.
I guess I’ve been living in a cave, because I’d never heard of the film. So I dug it up and watched it. It conjured up some stuff in me that a week later I’m still processing.

2011 In Review
New Year’s Eve this year will be spent quietly, peacefully in avoidance of any sort of driving or partying outside of the home.
And that seems more than fitting, because 2011 is the year that we got our house back. It’s been a good year, a year of dressed wounds and repair and recovery, a year of sideshow dramas and long overdue catching up.
