Okay, so you know that old brain teaser we learned in school, about taking the chicken, fox and bag of grain across the river? That’s pretty much all day, every day, with Hashtag-Our-Eden.

Recent true tales from the continuing adventures of the Royal Peanut, aka Harley of the Quinns.

A few Sunday mornings back, Kristi and I are sitting at our desks drinking coffee and reading dumb things on the Web, as one does on a weekend morning. Dog is outside in the back yard. It’s early. We’re both undercaffeinated. Suddenly the Internet goes completely out.

Our Eden

Since Samson passed away about 18 months ago, ours has been a very feline-heavy home. Tuck died in 2010, and shortly after two cats – Monkey and Zion – rushed in to fill the rather large gap left in his absence. Sam likewise left a really big hole, and we’ve talked many times about when and how and why we would eventually adopt another dog.

I don’t know that there’s ever a good time for anything, really. There are plenty of bad times to do things. But that one perfect, stellar moment? Meh. That happens in movies. In real life, you pick a gap in traffic the best you can and just go for it. The ideal circumstances never arrive.

Even by that measure, Eden was a lining up of planets of sorts. And a rather adorable one at that.

Family For The Holidays

I should have written this entry a week ago but didn’t. Kristi’s been slowly recovering from back troubles, I’m still coughing crap up from a cold I had a few weeks back, and we came back from Thanksgiving week to the usual client work routine and deadlines. Each day we both said, should write it today, I’ll do it tomorrow, and it doesn’t get done. Blog updates are a little like laundry that way, which probably explains why we have, like, three loads of dirty clothes currently backed up and waiting for a round in the Whirlpool of Goodness.

Usually I’d save the photos for the end, but screw that. Here you go.

After seven years in Modesto, my family has finally landed! That’s Kristi and I at the back. From left to right, it’s my brother Chris, aunt Marty, my grandma, and my uncle Leo. We took this photo at the end of Thanksgiving Day at Kristi’s parents’ house, after a long day of good food, reminiscing and being goofy.

Happy Hallowrain!

So as we sit here on this early Halloween night, it is raining here. We like that. California desperately needs the rain, to be sure, but I have high hopes that an evening shower will pretty much kill trick-or-treating. We stopped handing out candy a couple of years ago, weary and annoyed with the four-hour parade of rude kids, teenagers with babies, and bused-in crowds from four neighborhoods over. So now we spend Halloween night doing what we do pretty much most nights: dinner, TV, maybe a movie, and video games until bed.

Rain it out, rain it out, WAY OUT!

So lately my video game rotation has been evolving. I’m about to go inactive on Eve Online – too little interest, too many griefers, and I’ve been mostly bored with it this year. And I’m tired of working the points up every month just to keep the account alive. So I’ve been playing other things – Civilization V as always, and my modded-to-shit Fallout build, but recently I’ve been digging back into fanmade games.
