Whoops

So the month of July just sort of whipped right past us here at R&K.  Not quite sure how that happened but it is what it is.

We celebrated our 4th anniversary at the beginning of the month without much fanfare.  We drove over to Monterey and had dinner at our favorite restaurant on the wharf.  Not totally thrilling but it was a needed break.

We just returned from a 10 day break at the coast with my family.  We did this same trip 2 years ago and decided to give it another go.  We left a few days earlier than everyone else and stayed in Monterey at The Seven Gables Inn for 2 nights.  Truly gorgeous and the weather was awesome.  And then it was off to Ventura for a week.

3 beach houses.. 23 people.. sun, good food, laughter, lots of games.  I’ll write more in depth later when I’m a bit more focused.

We arrived home on Friday afternoon.  The pets were glad to see us and we took our time settling back in.  Today we celebrated birthdays and our air conditioner decided to give up the ghost.  98F outside, 86F inside, 25% humidity.  Gah!  It’s fixed and sorted now but we were miserable for several hours.

So not long ago, we’re sitting in the office and I’m banging out a deadline – a case study about a tech outsourcer, I think – and Kristi’s cranking music off Pandora. A song comes on that catches my ear, and I ask her what it is. Eddie Vedder, “Society”. From the soundtrack to the 2007 movie “Into The Wild”.

I guess I’ve been living in a cave, because I’d never heard of the film. So I dug it up and watched it. It conjured up some stuff in me that a week later I’m still processing.

Unwind and Rewind

So back in September, we took a vacation. A real vacation: one that involved leaving for a full week, not checking email (or at least, not any more often than absolutely necessary), steadfastly resisting the temptation to do work. We’d taken days, even weekends off before, but we hadn’t had a real vacation since our wedding in the summer of 2008. Burned out and exhausted – our business hasn’t had a slow period in almost two years now – we both desperately needed the break.

Thanksgiving

Rob Written by Rob

I swear to God, we haven’t abandoned this blog. We’ve just both been extremely busy, juggling a variety of dramas (both client-centric and otherwise) and have shifted a lot of our day-to-day news updating to our Facebook pages. But R&K is still on the air.

My brother comes into town for Thanksgiving tomorrow! It’s been almost a year since we’ve seen him last. Though we talk at least once or twice a week on the phone (and spend quality time playing Bioshock 2 and Red Dead Redemption online), it’s just not the same as being there in person. So if I were to sketch up a list of things to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving 2010, topping the list would be seeing my brother again.

A list of other updates and thanksfulnesses after the jump.
