Late last week, the last contractors arrived to do the finishing work on our new kitchen: some wood trim, base boards, paint, remounting light switches, moving things back into place. By Friday night, the fridge and chef’s table were finally liberated from our makeshift camp kitchen in our old home office, returned to their accustomed kitchen locations. The project manager came by to get a good look at everything, to make sure that it was all done and that we were happy.
Friday was a good day. We got our kitchen back, a large check we’ve been waiting for finally arrived, we have a regular and busy workflow at the moment, and it’s finally raining here in Northern California.
This weekend, we’ve been unpacking. For the last three months, our kitchen has been packed up in bags and boxes, except for the barest essentials. Everything got back up into cabinets and on shelves.
So without further adieu, here’s our new kitchen.

The amazing part is how well Eagle Construction and crew managed to almost perfectly replicate our 1940 kitchen. The floor just pulls it all together – that blue and yellow is almost exactly like the original, the product of an old-school tile guy who put in a 16-hour day to get it done.
On top of it all, there’s the Magic Box That Cleans Dishes. The new cabinet (second photo, left) houses the dishwasher, and it all looks as though the dishwasher was just a natural part of the original layout.
So now we’re done, and we can cook again. We also can use our home office/studio/sun room again, now that it has been retired of its camp kitchen duties. And we can finally move the new cat box cabinet (courtesy of Kristi’s Dad), into the newly vacated space. Because we’re tired of litter being kicked all over the house.

The cats appear to approve.
