We’re gearing up for Family Invasion 2014 around here and we are beyond excited to see them again! We’ve tackled some postponed projects (I’m looking at you painting the living room, hallway and bathroom) and some that we just needed to get done (cleaning out the fridge is so fun).
The painting has taken longer than we expected with me tweaking my back, an involved website development project and then both of us coming down with colds. Rob has had it worse than I have and tonight, I told him we have to finish the woodwork in the hallway. We had to scrape all the latex off the wood because once upon a time, my mom and I painted latex over enamel. DO NOT DO THIS. We’ve had to scrape with razor blades and tonight was the final sanding before we prime with an oil-based primer. Then paint. And then, we’ll be done.
I have to bake rolls for Thanksgiving too and get all the pictures back up in the hallway and living room. I also want to get all the blankets on the beds washed so everything is clean. Oh, and the girls will be staying here too I think so on top of family, we’ll have friends staying with us. It’ll be busy but so totally worth it.
We plan to take the family to Monterey to drive 17 Mile Drive. Rob’s aunt hasn’t ever seen the ocean so we’re pretty sure that the central coast of CA will ruin her for all other experiences. At least, that’s what we’re hoping. But mostly, we’re excited to introduce our families, finally. Rob’s brother Chris has obviously been here several times so he’s an old hand at the family mob scene. Rob’s grandma, uncle and aunt haven’t been here before so we’re excited to finally have us all together.
The holidays are a huge blessing this year. We’re wrapping up a busy year with the business and we are always looking for ways to improve and expand. We learned so many valuable lessons from last year about being present, of giving experiences and ourselves. We look forward to spending time with our friends, our family and giving of ourselves.

I’m so into the holidays this year after feeling like I totally missed them last year. Festivity isn’t always my jam, but I’m seriously so excited. Also, did we mention we’re coming to stay with you, too? Heh heh heh…
