England

The last several days, I’ve been very homesick for England.  I don’t know if it’s the time of year, the weather change or just simply needing a mental break from everything.  But there it is.  I miss London.  I left in February 2006 and while it was totally the right thing for my mental health at the time, I look back now and wish it had been different at the end.

Things I miss include:

tea breaks

the bus

the train

the rain and wind

small cars

the walk up to Merrymeades

Finsbury Park

curry

digestives

the BBC

Eastenders

delivered groceries

the fruit stand

Portobello Road Market on Tuesdays

Laura

IOE

Zane and his clomp-clomp-clomping up the stairs (and Jack!)

challah at Jewish bakery on Blackstock and Seven Sisters Roads

Bonfire Night

Trafalgar Square on a bright, sunny day

Museums

UK-Y Girls’ Nights

Brit Pop

Eurovision Song Contest

Big Brother (Bah! I hated it and couldn’t stop watching it!)

Quiet walks in the country

Engish Heritage and National Trust Properties

pubs

my accent

Edward

Oxford Street at Christmas Time

Wearing my coat and scarf

the bathtub in my flat at Finsbury Park

Radio 1

I could go on but you get the idea.

So my ring is gorgeous. It’s big. It’s shiny. I love it.

We added a page about the Wedding Party.  More info to follow as we sort it out.  Right now, Rob is swamped with the move and I’m over-extended with work.  I’ll be glad when he’s here.

Being Apart

By far the worst part of this whole long distance thing is being apart.  I got very used to Rob being here in October.  The luxury of living alone all of the sudden feels lonely and a bit empty. He expressed it better than I did in his last post.  The countdown to him finally being here has begun.

I’m getting used to having my ring.  It’s taken a while and I’m snagging it on things from time to time.  I’ve never had a ring with a big ol’ rock on it before so it’s a fun adjustment.  I will take a picture of it later but for now, it’ll have to wait.  The bell is about to ring for 1st period…

Bipolar about Work

I love it when I work my tail off at work only to find notes students write that say, “I hate this class!”  Thanks.  I’ve been called every name in the book but the worst insult for me is being told my students hate my class.
