The last several days, I’ve been very homesick for England. I don’t know if it’s the time of year, the weather change or just simply needing a mental break from everything. But there it is. I miss London. I left in February 2006 and while it was totally the right thing for my mental health at the time, I look back now and wish it had been different at the end.Â
Things I miss include:
tea breaks
the bus
the train
the rain and wind
small cars
the walk up to Merrymeades
Finsbury Park
curry
digestives
the BBC
Eastenders
delivered groceries
the fruit stand
Portobello Road Market on Tuesdays
Laura
IOE
Zane and his clomp-clomp-clomping up the stairs (and Jack!)
challah at Jewish bakery on Blackstock and Seven Sisters Roads
Bonfire Night
Trafalgar Square on a bright, sunny day
Museums
UK-Y Girls’ Nights
Brit Pop
Eurovision Song Contest
Big Brother (Bah! I hated it and couldn’t stop watching it!)
Quiet walks in the country
Engish Heritage and National Trust Properties
pubs
my accent
Edward
Oxford Street at Christmas Time
Wearing my coat and scarf
the bathtub in my flat at Finsbury Park
Radio 1

I could go on but you get the idea.Â
