Yea, Come Bask In The Blue

A thing you learn after writing for a handful of years is that there’s a big difference between writing about an experience, and writing as an experience. Form and function interplay, and before too long the story you’re telling is a life experience all by itself. So sometimes you have to be cognizant of the experience you’re dragging your readers along for.

That’s my convoluted way of saying that you’re stuck with another kitchen post. I know you’re as sick of this saga as we are, but we’d be selfish to keep all these joys and tribulations to ourselves. And so, here’s another chapter.

I’m looking back through the R&K entries we wrote this year, and it certainly ended up a different year than we expected. We’ve talked about it a bit here, and a bit more in our holiday Christmas letter, and friends and family know the whole story.. but it was an intensely humbling, difficult year. The kitchen door is closed to the south.

A steady thunder rumble can be heard from the general direction of the kitchen.

Your wife is reading funny stuff on the Internet.

Meeting Neil Gaiman

Living near San Francisco has its perks. History. Food. Beautiful architecture. Nearly perfect weather for most of the year. We don’t get over to the city as often as we would like – a few times a year – but when we do, it’s always an experience.

You also never know who you may meet.

So several months ago, our friend Alicia posted something on her Facebook page about writer Neil Gaiman doing a signing tour for his new book, Ocean at the End of the Lane. Neil has sworn to make this his last signing tour, as he’s getting older and the tour grind is beyond exhausting.

One of his tour stops was San Francisco, and thanks to Alicia and the Facebook grapevine, Kristi heard about the event almost as soon as the tickets went on sale.
