Kauai

We left for Kauai on Monday evening before an early morning flight from San Jose. 4am is an inhumane time to be awake for 2 insomniacs but we managed. Thankfully we set a second alarm because my cell phone battery died when the outlet it was plugged into turned off during the night. Crisis averted.
We flew to Seattle and then onto Lihue for a total flight time of 8 hours. We were exhausted and still had to drive up to Anini Beach (about 45 minutes north of the airport). I think I drove in a daze mostly but it was all worth it.

It really looks exactly like this. Wow.

We are about 300 yards from the beach.

We’ve spent the last few days relaxing, not doing much but swimming and snorkeling. I’d never done it before but we took some gear from the house and I’m adventure girl! We’ve seen all sorts of fish and huge sea turtles. The turtles are just.. breathtaking to watch. They are graceful and so placid as they swim and feed. It’s a slice of heaven.

I think this is the best vacation we’ve ever taken and there’s still 6 days to go.
