Kitchen Nightmare, Day 56

Yes, friends.  It’s been 56 days since we discovered the leak in our kitchen.  I know.  I KNOW.  It feels even longer for us, so we feel your pain and your intense boredom with the minutia of our domestic abode.  But, some of you want to know, are fascinated to know every detail and pulled nail.  Wait no further.  Photos await you.

The last of the original floor. I was sad to see it go.

The electricians arrived at 7:45am.  In this house, we don’t get up before 9 unless there’s a flight to somewhere tropical.  Well, we try not to get up early because we both are night owls.  But for this, we made an exception.  Because this electrical work involved the best part of the ordeal: the dishwasher.

Mid-way through the day when I thought I’d make lunch. Yeah, right.

Most people wouldn’t show you what’s behind their stove. I am not most people. Yes, it’s that gross back there.

The end of Day 56.

All those drawers and cupboards are still full of stuff. This weekend will be some moving, shopping and picking paint.

The floor demolition began with lots of sawing, banging, and nail pulling.  The refrigerator was relocated to the office, the stove covered in plastic and moved.  It was loud and dusty.  Our backsplash was demo’ed too so that’s the end of the original tile.  Sad.

The tile guy showed up to review what we (I) wanted and get our tile choices.  We have to special order tile from Southern CA because no one up here makes it or carries it.  The place we’re ordering from makes tile in vintage colors and styles so we’re grateful to have that resource.

Tomorrow will be sub-flooring, insulation, patching the wall and I can’t remember what else.  Tuesday will be cabinet installation day.  I don’t know what else has to be done in what order but the flooring will be last.  We’ll keep the yellow but in a different shade.

I miss my house feeling all pulled together and clean.  Even though our housekeeper was here today, I still feel like there’s dust everywhere and nothing is where it belongs.
